They offer no geometric advantage over straight tone arms. S-shaped tone arms are possibly one of the greatest hoaxes in audio. This is one reason why I refuse to use S-shaped tone arms. Greater force= more wear and the possibility of a bounce after the crest in a warp. The OA2 uses high-quality materials: glass-filled nylon, aluminum, brass, and stainless steel. The OA2 tonearm has the same low center of mass and relatively low effective mass as the original. The higher the mass, the more it wants to stay where it is (on the level) and therefore the greater force exerted on the vinyl when a warp tries to move it. The formula- f=ma (force= mass * acceleration) means that even for a correctly set tracking force, a tonearm of higher mass (moment of inertia) will exert a greater force when "accelerated" by the rise in a warped record. The advantage to a stiff, low mass arm is the exceptional tracking ability and lack of wear on warped or slightly warped LPs. In an ideal world the mass should be zero and the mass of the cartridge to be that of its ideal tracking force. I have had great luck with tone arms + cartridge around 13 grams or so effective mass- or 7.5 for the arm alone. If you own a vintage system, note that the market for low-mass vs high-mass tonearms shifted in the 80’s with low-mass arms and high-compliance cartridges being popular but today’s high-end cartridges are better suited in medium to high-mass tonearms.

The Signet show's some normal wear, but the main issue would be the head shell pickup. Rebranded Audio Technica AT-1100 low-mass tonearm. Many coils are lowish compliance but dont necessarily demand a very low mass arm.
